What will HTC be announcing?

htchero In light of HTC’s upcoming press event June 24th (noticed the counter up on the right?) there are a few possible products we can more or less expect HTC to shed some light on during event. Based on previously leaked roadmaps along with other documents we have a pretty good idea of what HTC has in store.

As I love to speculate and try to put bits and pieces of information together in order to figure out what will be announced, I only find me digging deeper and deeper. Along the way I find more and more possible products HTC may have standing by just waiting for a June 24th announcement. Curious? Read on for the full briefing!

I have no idea which of the following will be revealed but I am pretty confident whatever will be announced will be htc_rosie_1amongst the following. Ok, lets get cracking!

ROSIE

HTC’s new interface shell for Android is codenamed Rosie and is not really a secret anymore as we have seen various YouTube video’s and leaked ROM’s showcasing the new, slick interface.

I think we can pretty much nail this one as being on HTC’s agenda for the upcoming event. I must admit, Rosie looks sweet but I don't feel its brings the same improvement to Android as TF3D did for Windows Mobile seeing as Android’s native interface is pretty slick by itself. That said, Rosie may turn out even better than what we have already seen!

Check out the Youtube-video showing off HTC Hero here. I have to admit, it does make my fingers itch!

HTC HERO

htc_hero_1Next up is a device that we have seen a few leaked pictures of lately and it I think its likely that it will turn out to be the T-Mobile G1Touch (Still the dumbest name ever!). Currently, T-Mobile has the HTC G1 (HTC Dream) while Vodafone has the HTC Magic. Considering that the images reveals HTC Hero looking very similar to the Dream except for a missing qwerty-keyboard and a slightly more appealing design, I don't think I would be surprised to see this little thing being announced on Wednesday.

Digitimes.com reported earlier this month that HTC will indeed be presenting HTC Hero along with HTC Lancaster. Little is known about the specifications of the HTC Hero and how it differs from HTC Magic (doesn't seem to be much) but I am pretty confident that we will known in a few days.

HTC Lancaster

If HTC Hero is announced, I am pretty sure HTC Lancaster will be announced too. HTC Lancaster basically looks identical to the HTC Magic with the only visible difference being a qwerty-keyboard and a smaller screen (I still hope that information will turn out to be false). Thanks to a leaked AT&T document, we are pretty sure of what Lancaster will bring with it in terms of specifications. It is as follows:

HTC Tachi (Twin)

htc_tachi Its possible that HTC’s upcoming press event wont just be about Android-based phones. HTC has earlier said quite clearly that Windows Mobile will still be their main area of focus. As of such, HTC Tachi might be on for the show too. HTC Tachi is rumored to be the first device to be running Windows Mobile 6.5 from launch. The only bump here is that rumors also have it that the HTC Tachi will be exlusive to the Dopod network in China and as of such may not be very interesting for anyone else. From what little is known Ive gathered the following specifications for the HTC Tachi:

  • 2.8-inch screen
    CDMA
    WiFi
    Bluetooth 2.0
    3.1MP camera w/auto-focus
    Front facing camera
    MicroSD

That concludes my little briefing on what I think HTC might have in store for us. According to the leaked roadmap from earlier this year, we have yet to see the HTC Thoth, Firestone and Whitestone but I think they are bound for a later release considering Touch Pro 2 and Diamond have barely hit the stores. Would be strange if HTC more or less kills their success by announcing models that would directly compete with the two devices just yet.

Be sure to catch our live coverage of the press event!

Also, join in on the forums and discuss what you think HTC will be presenting!
